Door Card Interchange between 8th & 9th gen

I spent the day at the junkyard today and came up empty trying to find gray inside door handles for my 8th gen truck ('87 - '91). Instead what I did notice is that the handles for the 9th gen trucks ('92 - '96), are much better quality, but they don't mount the same. Which leads me to the question at hand...

Can I swap the entire door card from the 9th gen truck onto the 8th? Obviously they'd both need to have the same type of window raising mechanism (mechanical vs. power).

Somebody must have tried this, no? From what I recall the doors are the same, so that gives me some reason to believe the cards could be interchanged.

Yes, door panel = door card. Mine has manual windows.

They will "fit" the door but if the door will shut with the newer panel is another story

Are they a little larger and thus interference with the surrounding trim panels is the problem? Sounds like you're speculating (and that's fine lacking any hard data), but has anyone actually done this?

Just to follow-up on this thread, pasting a data-point from another related thread below. Coupled with Brad's comments above, it sounds like it's probably a bad idea so I won't further investigate...

if you cant find ones that fit you could make custom ones out you want in whatever shape that will fit. or modify the door to fit the handles you designed

I may have a pair at my house I could sell you. Let me look tonite and get back to you, unless you for sure want to do the door panel swap.

Thanks, but I guess I should have pointed out that on a subsequent visit I got the handle that I needed, as referenced in this thread...
