Speedo/Mileage not working
So I knew it wasn't working when I get this truck from my boss. But all the other guages on the front panel are working. I checked the obvious (position 18 on the fuse box, and its good).
Are there any simple tasks for me to check before delving into something more complicated?

Even easier to test the output signal from Steve83: F-Series VSS info | SuperMotors.net
Many on this forum have replaced the VSS, but still have the same issue. A faulty RABS module can drag down the VSS output signal before it gets to the PSOM in the instrument cluster. I highly suggest you test the output signal before you try replacing the VSS.

One easy and common problem is the Vehicle Speed Sensor VSS.
It is about the size of a walnut and sits on the front top of the rear differential. It is the only thing on the differential with wires on it. At least on my 94 F250 it is.
It takes maybe 5 minutes to remove with simple hand tools. Costs something like $20 or $30 ??? Sometimes you might need to open the diff and clean it out since the VSS sometimes gets eaten up by the speed sensor gear inside the diff.
If the speedo jumps around, then almost sure it is a sensor on its way out. If the speedo is dead then several things could be bad, but common is the VSS. Not sure how to test these things so hope some of the guys step in with more info. Could be a bad wire too.
Not sure if this will work... the cruise control takes info from the speed sensor. So, if your cruise control works but the speedo doesn't then I would lean more towards a speedo or wiring issue from the computer to the instrument cluster. I do know from experience when the VSS is jumpy and failing, the cruise gets jumpy too or doesn't work at all.
Good Luck,
