Couple questions - Oil Cooler and Glow plugs

Howdy guys! It's FINALLY Friday

So I got some questions.

First, Ford don't carry ZD1 Glow plugs anymore, and an International Dealer has to special order them, at the tune of 30$ each...... so anyone know of a site I can order 'em from, other than ebay?

Next....

Is it a big job doing an oil cooler?

I been driving my van all week, putting around 30 miles on it per day, and 110 miles the day I got my plates

It's dripping pretty bad, it's coating the entire underneath of the van with oil spots. It's leaking at the end cap just over the oil filter. Already down a quart... and it's not burning it.

Looking at it underneath, if the end caps can be separated once unbolted, it doesn't look to bad...?

It's not mixing oil and coolant. Just leaking oil.

On a unrelated side note, the van has been running MUCH better the more I drive it, the better it runs. When it fires up cold, even with 7 glow plugs working, it fires off no problem, and only puffs out a small amount of black smoke, no blue or white at all.

Down the road, at full throttle I see minimum black smoke, that's it.

I'm gonna be replacing the starter tomorrow as once it's warmed up, it doesn't crank fast enough, and drains the batteries to **** in no time. I'm also going to heat up and try and save my seizing King Pin.

I'll report back on how that works out.

I guess next trip I make across the border, I'll look around, see if I can get some.

At least the glow plug isn't urgent, as long as I have all 8 working before next winter.

You have the ZD9 plugs for your 7.3 though. The old 6.9 ones aren't the same. It's the older spade connector 6V ones.

Thanks TJC! I didn't know Rockauto had 'em!

Alrighty, well I replaced the starter, WOW what a difference that made!

Also, heated up my KingPin, tryed pumping in grease, still wouldn't take it, (was coming out around the grease cap), so I took it off, cleaned it, and heated and burned all the old **** that was in there, and heated the pin directly, while turning the wheel.

Re-installed cap, heated more, and while turning the wheels side to side, pumped grease it in, and this big chunk of black crap grease flew out the top, and the grease went all in no problem!

It's freed up, and turns like butter now

Drives a perfect straight line down the road, the wheel is a little off center to the right, but tracks nice and straight, and feels solid on the road.

Also, I just came back from driving the motorhome back home..... well tryed to make it home.... it didn't make it. The tranny went ka boom not even a mile from the house. Came up to a red light, stopped, hear this very loud grinding noise coming from the front of the transmission, light turns green, start giving it gas, takes off, then CLANG....nothing, just coasting. Has no more gears at all.

So I towed it the rest of the way with the van, and once here, I called a tow truck to have it park in my driveway, and bring it up in the air, to put my ramps under the front tires, so tomorrow I'll start dropping the transmission.
