You just going to look at it, without being asked, went above and beyond. It was my choice to go ahead. Do you remember the auction in Michigan in 2009 on Ebay that the truck was sold at? You took a photo of a receipt that was in the glove box. I called that guy and he was delighted to hear what became of "his" truck. He told me "Scarlett" was once a Ford show truck that travelled around the U.S. in a tractor-trailer. He said when he sold it it was TOTALLY original. No fiberglass, everything worked. What do you suppose happened? Is there profit in selling off original metal parts and putting on fiberglass or repro parts? It appears the bed is a repro, too perfect. Just wondering.

Who knows why or what the prior owner (Brian) did to and with the truck. A pair of fiberglass fenders will probably run about $600-700. Then there's prep and paint. Doubt that he would make a profit selling the original metal fenders and still come out ahead by using fiberglass. Too bad that the truck was ruined by him.

The bed is original. 48-50 beds had raised bedsides (stamped) and rounded stake pockets. For the 51 model year, the bed was changed to flat bedsides and square stake pockets. The same designed continued into the 70s. Repro beds that are available now are for the 51+ model years.

First off, I wouldn't say the truck is ruined, it's just less than expected. Since it will be in a humid outdoor environment, 'glas may be better.

I agree I don't see him selling off "good" steel fenders for a profit, unhooking the gauges, or removing the wipers, for that matter. So maybe it's the gent in MI who is a little less than accurate in his recollections?

BTW, I watched American Restoration last night with a new appreciation of Rick's truck. I googled it to confirm that I was in fact looking at a 51 F1 and lo and behold FTE/51PanelMan came up!

Thanks for the very kind offer, but I think I will pass. (I must admit it does conjur an interesting vision though) Right now I am trying to focus on setting things right with Scarlett and enjoying time driving her. I am not precluding further action, just not right now.
