chevy 6.5 diesel glow plugs in a 86 f250 6.9???

my boss was telling me I can put glow plugs from a chevy 6.5 into my truck with a bit of wiring.

wondering if anyone has done it? can u hook it up to the current glow plug controller or is better to have it on a push switch.

thanks

The controller is designed specifically to use the proper Motorcraft/Beru glow plugs. They're only about $11 each from O'Reilly or Rock Auto.
There are many horror stories on here regarding using other than Motorcraft plugs...

my current glow plugs are pretty new and dont seem to do the trick. I have the controller bypassed so they are on a push switch

I push them on 8-10 secs and try to start it cold and it never starts first try.

the chevy 6.5 glow plugs can go on for much longer without burning out

it starts fine though when block heater is plugged in

I agree ... Why!

You currently have the old style controller, when they work they work good, when they fail they fail bad ...

The best thing you can do is get a newer controller and engine harness from 87up and use Beru ZD9's.

You'll have to custom blend the 87up engine harness to the 86 bay harness, a little wiring cleanup on the 86 inner fender ... easy task!

-Enjoy

All Glow Plugs burn out, it's just a matter of when and how.

As for better, that is debatable ...

I would say you have a problem, I have yet to hear anyone with properly working systems have starting problems ... from far colder locations then the lower 48.

I know that I see -20F in the winter, I do not plug in, my trucks start instantly.

I personally am not an advocate for manual Glow Plugs ... But that is just my opinion.

The Facts, It's your truck, you can hack in anything you want, as long as you think it's an improvement what does it matter what I or anyone else thinks!

-Enjoy
