need help I.D. a Sensor

helping a friend to find out what sensor this is any info helps, it is on top front of the engine with gear inside, is in and old style sensor with a new type to replace it? this is on a 94 7.3 with turbo, but is also on an 89 he has that is idi

I am about 95% sure that the sensor in question is the Engine RPM sensor that sends the signal to the tachometer. And by the way, that's an IDI, not a Powerstroke .

Your buddy didnt happen to tell you that the 94 is an IDI also did he?

that is the tach sensor for an IDI diesel.

he took a pic of his 88, and had a mechanic tell him that it was a cam sensor, however he told me the 94 has the exact same sensor, does this make sense, thanks

94 had 3 motors 7.3 IDI , 7.3 IDI turbo, 7.3 DI turbo powerstroke

It is not the same sensor as the Cam Position Sensor in a 7.3 Powerstroke, but if the mechanic was talking about a 94 with an IDI, it would have the same sensor.

ok then it is the idi turbo, motor code K
