PCV valve question

Hi there,

Could you please tell me if this is my PCV valve and how can I change it?
Judging by breather filter condition I can assuming that PCV valve needs to be replaced. But I can't remove it from the cap by pulling out.

No, that's not your PCV valve.

Look on the valve cover, near the firewall.
The part in your photo is the clean air input for the PCV system.

However, that is part of your Positive Crankcase Ventilation system. The hose from the PCV valve hooks into vacuum, which pulls oil-laden air out of the engine through the PCV valve. But, that air has to be replaced, and it comes in via the filter, which is the black foam thing in your picture, and it sits in the Napa piece which fits into the air cleaner. The Napa piece connects to the hose in your picture, which connects to the part that goes into the valve cover, AKA the oil fill.

Saying it another way, the vacuum pulls air into the PCV system via the filter, through the hose into the driver's side valve cover (assuming an 8 cylinder engine), from that valve cover through the crankcase or lifter valley to the other valve cover, and from there through the PCV valve into the manifold or carb to be burned with the fuel.

That is not the smog valve! What you see in oil cap is: C8AZ-6767-B plastic elbow.

1982 F150 300 I-6:

No smog valve shown in above pic, it's either still in valve cover (fits into rubber grommet: E7AZ-6A892-A) or is missing. The grommet may still be in place since it twists on/off.

Smog hose and plastic elbow (384411-S) that is retained by a clip (D1AZ-9E628-B) to crankcase ventilation filter (9D695).

Drivers side oil cap (D3AZ-6766-A) with replaceable rubber grommet (C8AZ-6A892-D) and plastic elbow (C8AZ-6767-B) installed in it.

Replaceable by itself foam crankcase ventilation filter (9D697)

Crankcase ventilation filter (9D695), fits inside air cleaner...its nipple pokes thru hole in air cleaner, is retained by a clip (D1AZ-9E628-B) that also retains the plastic elbow (384411-S).

I found it! It was on the other side from the 'oil fill cup'.

Question: Does it suppose sit in tight? my was kind of loose, I pulled it out without any effort and I felt that there is no rubber to hold it tight.

Please help.

Just pushes in, no retainers, sits snugly in a rubber grommet.

1980/83 F100 300 I-6 / 1980/89 F150 300 I-6 / 1980/82 F100/150 302:

E1DZ-6A666-A .. Smog Valve (Motorcraft EV-118).

E7AZ-6A892-A .. Grommet, Smog Valve to Valve Cover.

Both of these are available from Ford and a gazillion autoparts stores.

Yes, I did notice that after reading thru his posts, but he failed to mention it "up front" in post #1.

I listed the part numbers for the valve and grommet and their applications in post #9, and edited out my comments.

Thank you so much! I bough the valve and the filter at local Kragen.
I also will buy the Grommet (thank you for the part number), I think mine is worn and not flexible.
