Front Axle

Took my truck to ford for a suspension issue and they found that the right front axle is bad. They want $735 for a new one. Any thoughts on a cheaper aftermarket axle that is just as strong if not stronger?

What did they say was wrong with it?

Look in a salvage yard if it is bad.

To the Ford dealer? The "right front axle is bad"? I would tell them to take that new axle and shove it so far up.....well. I had been hearing a knocking/rattling noise coming from the front end, so I had the dealer look at it when they were doing a recall. They said I needed new ball joints, to the tune of $950. I said no thanks. Turns out I mounted my Ranch Hand bumper too high and it was hitting my fender on bumps, which I figured out while driving my truck over a speed bump while a mechanic I know stood outside next to the bump and watched and listened. I dont even think the technician at the dealer drove it.

Start explaining your symptoms, then start searching on this forum, and I will bet you can save yourself quite a bit of money. I have learned that dealership service departments spend about 0.0 seconds diagnosing any problem and just want to throw new parts at everything.

It turns out that it was the outer shaft. There was a worn spot down by the u joint. They said that they cannot order the outer shaft by itself. They have no problem with me bringing in my own parts for them to install. This is something that I would normally change out by myself but if any of you have read any of my previous posts than you would understand why I am fed up with this damn truck. I found one on summit racing for about $190 but if anybody can find a better one than I am on board.

Oh, and anytime a dealer o rshop tell me a part is bad I always want to see it before I let them do anything. I usually don't take my vehicles into a shop because I ant stand people touching my vehicles. But some times I get so frustrated I have to take it in.

Outer shaft shouldn't be too pricey, I've used Randy's ring and pinion they have the entire stub axle Yukon outer stub axle for '98 and newer Dana 50/ Dana 60 - YA D2002692

Then 4wheel parts lists just the outer here http://www.4wheelparts.com/Drivetrai...n=D%2fS2002692

The truck is there for other reasons so it is torn apart right now. This is just something else that they happened to find. Can somebody please check out this outer shaft that I found and let me know if this will work. Alloy USA 10652 - Alloy USA Front Dana 60 Axle Shafts - Overview - SummitRacing.com

That would not be a direct replacement, you would need new hubs too.

There you go, that will work, and I think they are a sponsor too, I forget about them sometimes.

They are also trying to get me for two seals. I think that these are the two. Super Duty Inner Tube Seal and Superduty D50 & D60 Hub Vacuum Seal

These would be replacements for Ford part #s: F81z-3254-CB and BRS-84
