How involved is fuel tank upgrade? (newbie Q)

Hi all. I'm this close to ordering a 350 4x4 shortbed crewcab for suburban shopping trips and sometimes hauling a (relatively) lightweight slide-in camper.

The fuel tank for the shortbed seems somewhat petite. Is there an OEM upgrade? (My reading suggests not, but I could be wrong and definitely don't consider my dealer to be the guy to ask.) Would an aftermarket upgrade work with all the electronics and gauges and stuff? Is it a ridiculously expensive operation to get it all working properly?

And why the heck is Ford putting such a tiny tank in these trucks?

Thanks!

(Yeah I know a longbed would be better but we do need to stick with the shortbed.)

Transferflow Ford fuel tank systems
TITAN Diesel Fuel Tanks

From the sound of it you want plug-n-play, so these are pretty much your options. Transferflow's 50 gallon is around a grand shipped, plus whatever their local installer wants to put it in for you.

I put a titan 50 gal tank on 11,000 miles ago. Very nice when towing.
Look for threads and install video.

X2 on the Titan Tank...35000 miles on mine with zero issues caused by the Titan Tank...EpicCowlick has a great video on the installation process. Just make sure you follow the instructions carefully...especially the part about installing the fuel sender cover plate and o ring...

Regards

Watch Epics video and the tank should pretty much install itself
It's a good one.

I have the transferflow but knowing what I do now I would have went with the titan. There are at least a few gallons in the TF tank that are not useable......

I just installed an Aero Tank 55 gallon tank in my '06 F250 6.0L PSD CC 4x2 shortbed. Very clean install, uses factory sending unit, plumbing and filler neck. It was less than $1k installed. I had my first fill up today and put 50 gallons in it. I had to swipe my credit card at the pump twice because the dumb pump shuts off at $100. The gauge displayed empty at fill up time and now reads full as expected so I'm very happy so far!

I appreciate the info y'all. I definitely won't worry about this aspect of shortbedness.
