How to pick up a 460

I used the intake to pick up the 460 out of my parts truck some time ago, but now that I have installed an aluminum intake, I want to put the engine and transmission in as one unit. Can anyone tell me the best place to hook the chains without messing anything up? I took a little trouble to make it look nice and I just don't want to screw anything up with the hoist. The front clip will be off by the way, so clearance isn't an issue.

You can hook it up in front of the heads in the bolt holes. You can also make you some hangers that you can put yer hooks through and bolt the hangers up to the engine.

I just used the front and rear intake holes. Didnt mess anything up. Diagonally of course. Also aluminum intake. Seems to me that picking it up by the heads would damage the valve covers??

That's why I recommend making a hanger for it, it didn't mess mine up; maybe scratch it...its according which hole you use.

Straight off the FTE site itself, zoom in to see the stand off tabs/plates and a eng leveler to make it alot easier. Rent one and make the plates to attach the chains.

I marked the 1st pic with red circles to show what bolt holes I would use.....the X is a little thin to make me feel good with 700+ lbs on one bolt.

The carb and valve covers will come off anyway, so no damage should come to them, unless of course, I drop one on the floor of the garage which I am quite capable of doing as well. I just wanted to make it as maneuverable as possible since I will probably be doing it by myself.

Thanks for the pictures! That is perfect. That should give me plenty of working room in each direction when I go to set it in. We must have been typing at the same time earlier.

Hope you have no clearance issues with those valve covers on the power brake booster?

What route/company are you going as far as motor mounts? And factory exhaust manifolds (prob not?) or headers?

I actually ordered a smaller booster off of an F250/350, but the valve covers aren't as big as they look as far as height. They are wider, but hopefully no issues. The truck doesn't have power brakes at all right now. My parts truck had them, so I thought I would use what I needed off of it while I had everything apart anyway. I was lucky enough to find a parts truck that had a 460 in it already with AC, power steering, etc, so all the brackets and mounts were there already. My headers are the Hooker ceramic coated headers. I guess you would call them a mid-level set. I think they were 3 or 4 hundred, but it has been almost 6 months since I bought them, so I can't really remember.
