"A4LD was built to fail from the get go." Haha, thats for sure. Thats what happens when you use a 4cylinder Mustang transmission in a 4500lb SUV. I used to work in the "heavy shop" at a Ford dealer. I replaced engines and transmissions, head gaskets etc. However, if it weren't for the A4LD's decendants, 4R55s and 5R55s I would have starved. I just bought that one so I could take a stab at rebuilding one, but when I saw all those chunks and metal shavings in there, I chickened out. I should have asked my friend the transmission man at the ford dealer to rebuild it, but I didn't want to ask him to deal with such a mess.
Will that 250 roll backwards with the transfer case shifted into neutral, or is it electronic shift? Most transmission shops warranty a rebuild for 12mo, 12,000mi but they always state that if its a plow truck you get 1 month of warranty.

Put your question to the people that frequent this forum, might have some insight there save you having to pull it but I gotta say I doubt it based on what you've said so far.
