Apparently, rust-proofing with POR-15 work wonders, you should research that further.

I looked into this extensively and found POR 15 and products that compare themselves to POR 15. One word of caution. The solvent is good for removing the product from non porous surfaces, but it will NOT remove the stain of the product from your hands. Use surgical or comfortable rubber gloves when applying.

I think permatex makes or made a product called extend. Suposedly it turned rust back into steel or ferrous somethin or another.Back in the day a guy I worked for had a cheby we tore down and we sprayed the frame and whatnot with it.

Rustoleum rust converting spraypaint (or can if you wish) and topcoat with black rustoleum. I painted my frame a few years ago, some rust did come back but I was VERY lazy with prep. Otherwise its holding up great.

Prep is key, wire wheel, sandblaster, sand, whatever as much as you possibly can then degrease, clean, dry and such. THEN paint it.
