I have a 1989 F150 4x4. It has automatic hubs and a manual lever shift transfer case. When I was replacing the slave cylinder last spring, I noticed a problem with the shifter but never thought anything of it since the snow was gone and I wouldn't need four wheel drive for another 6 months. Well now its getting cold and I'm gonna need it soon. The problem with it is where the shifter handle bolts to the linkage. The stud with the nut has broken off, so I tried to fix it. I drilled out the stud hole(for some reason my drill bits wouldn't go all the way through) and I had a buddy of mine weld in a section of threaded rod as a quick fix to get it to work. Well after I reinstalled it and tested it, the stud pulled back out. I have been trying for 2 weeks to find a replacement part, but they don't make them anymore. LMC doesn't carry them. None of my local junkyards have any 4x4 parts left from those era Fords. Craigslist isn't helping either, as all the people parting out those trucks are either 2wd or they scrap them before I can get ahold of them. It also has to be from a pre-'92 truck, which makes things that much more difficult. If anyone has any ideas on what I can do to fix it, or where I can find one, I would appreciate it greatly. Thanks in advance.
I think I may have a spare for that vintage of truck - SC, so no rust here! There are several configurations - do you have to rock your lever slightly to the left to get it into neutral? PM me or e-mail, if you have a picture of yours, it would help make sure we've got the right one.
