DJM dropped beams and 77 front disc....Kingpin?

OK, here is my question. I am a little confused on which kingpin to use. I currently have DJM dropped beams with drum brakes; that has the 72 kingpins. I have purchased a complete 77 frnt end with nice rebuilt disc brakes on it. That set up has the stock I-beams and kingpins as well. So with my dropped beams, which kingpins are correct for the 77 brakes on the DJM dropped beam for a 72? the 77 king pins or the 72 king pins? From what I have read they are the same diameter??? but different lengths so I would assume the 77 kingpin must match the 77 spindle; so I should use the 77 kingpin? Just want to make sure.

Please advise,
Tim

I'm doing the same with my 70 but using 78 spindles and going with power brakes.

Your research is correct. Use the kingpins applicable to the year of the spindles you will be using - 1977.

I ordered the 65-72 DJM Dream beam kit. I found a 77 donor truck will it still fit? as long as i use the 77 spindle and king pin?

Good question...I'm not sure nowadays... DJM used to offer two different PNs.. one for Bumps and one for Dents. Now they only have one part number and I'm not exactly sure how it shakes out..

Call DJM at (310) 538-1583. I wouldn't email... it's too easily ignored. A continuously ringing telephone however is different.

If you order just the front beams from DJM, they are the same from 65 to 79. If you get their complete lowering kit they are different, because of the rear hanger and shackles. On the rear hanger and shackle kits 65-72 is the same and 73-96 is the same.

The difference in king pin size is so minute that it doesn't matter which you use. Either will work just fine.

Perhaps the length difference doesn't matter. '65-'74 F100 kingpins are .859" (55/64") in diameter by 6.35" (6-23/64") long.

'75-'79 F100/F150 kingpins are .859" by 6.49" (approximately 6-31/64") long. This is a difference of 9/64ths of an inch or, just over 1/8th inch difference in length.

If all else fails, read the instructions. Use the King pins for the model of spindles.

When I did mine (1969) I ordered the DJM kit and then I found 1978 Disc so I did the swap when I installed the kit I used the king pins that came with the kit and had no issues.
