buy direct from banks if you decide too. Then you get direct support if needed. Ask for a FTE discount. I think they are still a sponsor here.

FWIW to you there is an 08 on the ATL Craigs list with "225,000 fleet maintained" miles. They are asking 15,000 bucks. So, there is hope for all 6.4s.

There arent to many 6.4s in my area that dont have 200k+ on them, I think there is no reason at all that any vehicle should not be able to get there. But can it take the abuse and torcher as the 7.3l can day in and day out? That is with a few mods if built right, then again if it where built or corrected for the mods no one would have any problems, just trying to see what it can handle v.s the 7.3

Longevity

will be putting a IQ in and removing the 6gun switch and hoping to keep an eye on eng.behavior .Was wondering about my truck being flashed with a recent upgrade, bought from the dealer in torrance and they said it was serviced and checked [187 point etc.] yet my regen msg stays on for alot longer than 10-15 sec. more like many minutes.I read here that that was a possible clue that it does not have the most recent flash?

It is possible but doubtful. More than likely it is your driving conditions.

Seems the 6.4 is sensitive to potential problems. However, I think most problems can be mitigated through really good maintenance. This is definitely not the engine you want to ignore. Take care of it and it will take care of you. Additionally, I think it is really important to minimize the grocery store trips with it where it doesn't get a chance to warm to full operating temperatures to keep the emissions equipment working properly.

I have 28k on mine...I only use it to tow and haul...not a commuter. Likely 75% of the miles are pulling my Toy Hauler or Race Trailer. My towing MPGs are ~8 MPG, Highway Empty ~15.

FYI, I believe this is the best truck I've ever owned. Tons of power, comfortable ride, and lots of interior space for my family. I would buy another in a heartbeat.

I work 7 days offshore and off for 7 days, on my time "off" I work on a farm and all of the farm trucks are 6.4L fords (8 of them). Only one has been to the shop for repairs and it was for a radiator leak. These trucks have been to hell and back and they have held up great. The farm Mechanic does all the maintenance on the vehicles and changes the oil every 5000 miles along with the fuel filters ( due to the fact they store the diesel in tanks at the farm) they treat the tank in bulk with 55 gallon drums of diesel kleen. So yes I know these trucks can hold up to extreme abuse, but you have to maintain it down to a science. My personal truck is a f350 dually 6.4L, the whole reason I bought it is because I've seen what they can do.

also the one with the radiator leak had 130,000 miles on it before the radiator started leaking.

You should start your own thread so we can discuss.

As another guy looking at 6.4s, especially the higher mileage cheaper ones, my question would be how do these cope with sitting around a lot? My current truck handles that job well, starts off just fine after 3+ months of sitting; I hear diesels don't like that much. It would be used to pull a car to the drag strip 10-15 miles away at times, and hopefully pulling a travel trailer of some kind in the future. If I do end up getting one, egr/emissions stuff/etc would get deleted right away, it seems that's the only way to get significantly better mileage than the v10.

I like the prices on the 6.4s with over 100k miles, but don't like the (same ~15k) prices on the same vintage v10s (gotta get the 08+ to not have the spark plug problem). I think most of the itch of getting a newer truck steams from the stupid 4R100 in my truck...
