Steering 76 vs 79

I am beginning a 76 restoration with my boys. The guy I bought it from has 79 steering parts in a box for it and said he was going to swap from the 76 to the 79. Any reason for this and is it something I should do or keep whats on the truck?

Do a search for "highboy steering". This whole deal has been rehashed a LOT. There is a ton of information on this site. Use the search function.

C'mon man, we're not clairvoyant...A 76 what?

2WD?, 4WD?, F150?, F250? I'm guessing a 76 4WD. If so, the 78-79 system has fewer parts, fewer moving parts, and less prone to bumpsteer. I did the linkage and PS swap to my 73 using a 79 Bronco.

TIP: Revise your signature so we know what you're working on. See mine below? It'll be easy for you since ya don't have to enter it every time within the thread. Thanks!!

'just confirmed it's a 76 F150. BUT I had to do an archaeological dig in the OP's public profile to figger it out.

OH, WELCOME TO FTE!!!!!

Minor problem there. New member, only has 2 posts. Signature is not available to them yet......
Yes, having all the needed details are nice. Kinda difficult to give a <correct> answer without the details....

Thanks Wulffy. Good point... ..... it was so loooong ago for me personally.

Nonetheless, an insight (instead of a informational vacuum) as to what you, the original poster (OP), are working with will benefit us all.
