What year is my truck?

So my Dad recently went through divorce and in the process of moving all his stuff he gave me his old truck (My first vehicle). Its a 1978 (accourding to the title) f150xlt 4x4 will 140000km's on it. Truck was bought in Canada by my father in late 78 or early 79 he cant remember. I'm in the process of rebuilding it now and i'm about to to a brake upgrade (f350 master and booster). To do this i need to know what exact year the truck is becasue there are three different type of f350 booster that would fit depending on what year, 78 f350 2wd bososter for the 1978, 1979 2wd booster for the 1979 and then a different 79 booster if you have cruse control. The title says 1978 but my dad aways said it was a 1979 and some people are saying its a 78 and a half becasue it says 78 on the title but has the square headlights like the 79. Truck was built in Oct 1978. So what year do i have?

I'm really looking forward to the rebuild. i have a lot of great memories with this truck. truck sat for 8 years with out being started. i put a fresh battery, oil, radiator fluid, and fuel and it started up in about 5mins.... the only thing i need to make it road worthy again is the brake upgrade then i can start on a few small issues, but other then that the truck is in awesome shape.

Thanks,

David

Based on the production date of 10/78 i'd assume it's a 79.

All 1979s have rectangular headlights, but in 1978 the only ones that had round headlights were the Custom models. So there's a lot of 78s with rectangular headlights from the factory. But, yeah, 10/78 build date *should* be a 1979 model.

The 78's with square lights came on rangers and larites. Some 79's had round head lights from the factory!

According to the Ford parts catalog, if the last six digits of your truck's VIN are between AE0,001-CK9,999 it's a '78 model. If they're between DC0,001-FK9,000 it's a 79.
