That damn shimmy
1996 F-250 7.3 dana ttb 6" Tuff Country suspension lift. I have replaced center pivot bushings, complete steering linkage including pittman arm (skyjacker FA600), steering gearbox, upper and lower ball joints. Still have a severe shimmy at 45-50 mph. I cannot find any shop in my area that I trust who will talk to me about alignment most just want to keep throwing MY money at it. Tried to do it my self believe I have toe and camber good but am thinking it must be a caster problem. Did most of this myself but have run out of knowledge. Would like to get this thing so I can drive it reliably. Yrouble is I love the damn thing. Thanks in advance for any help.

What size/ brand tires do you have? I see 6" lift and think big, square, bias tires. Are you feeling the shimmy in the steering wheel or the seat? I did alignments for about 15 years and afaik, I didnt fix one vibration. I know its possible to have a caster shimmy but its really rare and when it comes in at a certain speed and goes away at higher speed its almost always a tire balance issue. I tried airsoft pellets in my dump truck tires with good luck. Here's a site that sells tire balancing beads but you can get airsoft pellets at walmart and weigh out the proper amount pretty cheap. You could rotate the tires and see if the shimmy moves to the rear. I've always just got the caster as even as possible on the TTB trucks, as long as it has some pos caster they seem to handle fine.
