6 speed tranny

6 speed tranny
has anyone put an aftermarket 6 speed into their psd something with a shift pattern like the dodges have? im not a big fan of the shift pattern the newer 7.3 has.
also...i have the manual 5 speed in my 97 f350 and when i shift into 3rd gear it grinds from time to time pretty bad. the clutch is completely pressed in and i dont jam it into gear. it only happens in 3rd too. syncronizer maybe?? ive pretty much decided im going to run it till it goes out and want to put a 6 speed like i asked about but would still like to know what it is causing the grind and want to know where to look before my current tranny dies so my truck isnt sidelined even longer.
thanks in advance for any suggestion

If I had my preferences, I would tighten up in between a couple of gears on the ZF-6 and add one more OD on the top end to take up the slack. Too bad no one asked me. Ehll, Ford even stopped putting a stick behind a diesel in the new trucks.

I don't particularly care for the space between 3rd and 4th on the ZF 5 either. But the durability is nice. You can always get a gear splitter/bolt-on OD.
What pattern do you want?
I think the NV5600 and Gutrag (G56?) are the same pattern.
The problem with those transmissions is towing in OD, which errrr, apparently destroys the transmission.
What don't you like about the ZF 6 pattern? I think it actually makes a lot of sense. For maneuvering the truck around, it's easy to bounce back and forth between L and R. And then 1-5 are a standard H pattern.

i know the torque of the I6 is different and the rear end is higher geared (i think) i just like the straight forward h pattern, and would love another gear in my truck if for nothing else just highway unloaded. i like the shift points and it pulls great. the way i see it being able to run 70 down the highway at 2200 rpms would save quite a bit of fuel vs. 2800 rpms i dont really like where reverse is on the ZF6. anytime i drive one of those trucks it seems like everytime i go to R i punch my knee haha.
where can i find a bolt on od or gear splitter. ive heard of the company gear vendor but heard some not so great things, also theres is a foot pedel on the floor to split the gears. is there any that has a switch that can be put on the stick. id even be down with another stick. haha that'd be some old school stuff

I was referring to the space between some of the gears, not the little diagram printed on the ****.
Gear vendors and US gear are the ones that make the splitters. Not too many options out there.
