Annoying shifting pattern.

I purchased my truck a year ago and I was told to drive it like I stoled it and I did. Now, I am experiencing a slight annoyance when shifting into 3rd gear. Regardless of my speed, it wants to shift at 2K!

Say for example I'm traveling at a decent speed going at 1700 RPMs. When the tranny is ready for the next gear, instead of shifting at 1700, it'll accelerates all the way up to 2000 RPMs and then shift! This is getting rather annoying and I am beginning to wonder whether my tranny has an issue or if it's simply the way I trained the tranny to shift at.

I know about the transmission relearing strategy but I am not sure whether I should do that first or simply take into the dealer right away.

Comments? Opinions?

Don't know if it would help or not, but I would at least disconnect the batteries and try the relearn strategy before taking it in. It only takes a few minutes. Make sure you leave a door open or the headlights for a few minutes after disconnecting BOTH negative cables.

Have the dealer look at it. My truck is in the shop now for a transmission. My transmission when shifted into R it made a harsh bump into gear (not smooth). When going into D it took a few seconds to go into gear (smooth). Shifting into 3-4 was not crisp (slipping feel). I have only 30,500 on the truck and is covered under warranty. I have had many issues with these transmissions.

You didn't train the tranny to shift at a different speed. The trans doesn't learn anything about your driving style, it only learns how long a shift takes from when the computer commands it until the computer measures that the shift has completed. If the shift takes too long it saves an added pressure for next time, if the shift was too quick it saves a lower pressure for next time.

It NEVER learns a different speed to make a shift.
