confused and needing help

Hey guys, I need help with my pick up. i have a 1997 F250 PSD 4x4 with an auto. My problem is with my trans, specificly the shift position switch. I have owned the truck only for a short period, I knew when I bought it it had a trans problem, would not shift gears. I ran the codes on it and got a P0708 code which is trans range sensor circuit high input. I was told this meant my shift position switch was bad. I called oriellys and had them order me one, when I went to pick it up it was different than the one on my truck, I had my old one with me and they started searching their computer for a match to it and it came back as a switch for a 1993 model truck. I had them go ahead and order it and I figured I would give it a try.... it did not fix my problem, so now I am starting to wonder if the original trans went out on the truck and instead of a rebuild the previous owner bought a used trans out of an older truck to replace it and when it would not work right decided to sale the truck.?.?. If anyone has a 1995-1997 F250 PSD with an E4OD trans in it that would not mind letting me take a look at it to see what the truck is suppose to have factory I would greatly appriciate you contacting me. I am in the Okla city area and would not mind traveling a little ways to look at one if i had to, or if anyone has any other ideas on this problem that may help too. Thanks a lot guys, looking forward to your responses.
