finally killed the door chime

02 E350, i HATE the annoying door open chime on vehicles, so i usually disable it pretty soon after i buy one. The vans have a little black box just above the left side of the doghouse under the dash which produces the 'chime' so i unplugged it. Just curious if there is ANY other reason for this box? Does it produce any chimes i might actually need while driving? On some cars this is the case, and you can't really disable it without losing features you need. So far it's great, but i'm hoping i haven't also disabled the 'your truck is going to blow up in 10 seconds, PULL OVER NOW' chime.
Any thoughts? Can i just enjoy my music in peace now while camping or in the driveway?

I think that chime alerts you to key in ignition and headlights still on when driver's door is opened. Recently replaced mine and thought I wanted the key in ignition feature but it was too annoying so just cut that wire to the chime module.

There's no Mission: Impossible warning "....will self destruct in 10....9....8.....seconds!!

Interesting that you asked that question after unpluging the box. Does that box produce all the chimes?

Yeah, i know. Well, i was pretty sure i'd be ok. I pay pretty close attention to what's going on with my van most of the time. Also, i didn't cut any wires and can just plug it right back in if i need to.

This box just has a few pins/wires, i'm pretty certain it's just for door chime, maybe headlights or something too, but nothing i need. No warning lights have come on, and i don't think i've ever left my lights on and run my battery down.

Also, i don't think i was getting a chime when door was left open. I don't recall ever seeing a Ford van do that, but the new ones might. This 02 is the newest i've had.

At home, I normally left my ignition key half way out on my GMC that eliminated the chime but now I have '10 e350 Van where the key has to be completely out otherwise the annoying buzzing continues. So I'll check where that black box is then unplug it..

Just be aware that you probably won't hear the buzzer when you leave on the lights or the idiot lights in the dash want your attention ;-)

I just used a piece of steel.....like 1/8” thick...1/2” wide.... and 4” long...I screwed it in on a pivot that holds the door button in .....for those times the door is opened for any extended length of time.....
