Need 48-50 f-1 cab

Me and my father are restoring his 1950 f-1 and I'm in desperate need of a cab. I don't mind doing floor pans or cab corners, but the one we have has dents all over the roof. Any help would be great!

The obvious first question anybody with a cab is gonna ask is your location. A cab is not easily shipped.

51Panelman (aka Ilya) has one in San Jose CA. It is attached to the rest of a relatively complete truck (no engine or trans).

That might be a little far, but it'd be a great road trip. You should send him a PM unless he sees this post.

What's wrong with your cab??

I have a beautiful 51-2 cab I'd let go cheap. It's the same as a 48-50 save the gauges and back window. And you did say you don't mind traveling. Eastern PA, eastern WA, it's just one letter off. We're practically neighbors.

I, too, had a 51-52 cab and couldn't give it away. I ended up cutting the roof off and scrapping the rest.

What part of your roof is dented? Have you thought sectioning the roof with another roof from a different cab? Like I mentioned, I have the top portion of the cab from a 51-52. However, the roof itself is the same as 48-50 as long as you section it at the roof seam.

It looks like a tree fell on it and then some one filled it in with bondo. THere's gotto be 501 lbs of filler on the roo, and the metal underneath is creased.

My 50 had a huge dent in the back corner of the cab roof. It looked like somebody dropped some big lumber on it. Go to the auto parts store and buy yourself a hammer and dolly. I was able to straighten it completely. You have nothing to lose. Sheet metal like that seems to want to return to its original shape.

True, but like I said, what do you have to lose? You can't mess it up any further, and you might not find a suitable replacement either. Plus you could get it to where it only needs 50 pounds of bondo to fix it back. Why don't you post a picture of the dent? There are some very talented people on this board who might be able to help.

old_dan's cab also had a tree branch fall on it in towards the back. The roof was creased. You should see his cab now. I set him up with a body shop to do some work in trade for parts that he had. They did an amazing job. Now, can't even tell that a tree fell on the roof.

Old metal is not the same as new metal. It's thicker and stronger. With some heat and hammer/dolly work you may be able to return the roof into the correct shape.

Post some pictures so we can see.

I agree, work on it and improve your metal skills. Even with a crease, it can be fixed with the right amount of dedication. Replacing the roof will also take work, why not use that work to keep what you have? Don't give up on your current cab so easily.
