Add backup camera to 2011 F-150 XLT ?
#61
I will gladly help you out in any way I can. As far as part numbers I am not really sure. I emailed nailsandsales from ebay and told her what I was looking for and she sent me the correct mirror and camera. As for harnesses there is a few ways you can go here. I called tasca ford and purchased the taillight harness. Come to find out my body harness did not have the correct wires and neither did the headliner harness. I ordered the headliner harness myself and it turned out to be the wrong one so I just stole the two wires I needed from the new one and ran them separately from the existing one. I ordered the body harness from Tasca ford however it took like three weeks to get and I was not patient so I used quick splices and wired into the trailer wires for power and ran the two cam wires to the back from the mirror. However now I have the body harness that has the correct wires that I am stuck with if you need it let me know I will give you a good deal.

camera+mirror testing
Hello, I got a camera+mirror from ebay and have successfully tested both.
I moved over to another board here.

Thanks to all that provided information on installing OEM cameras on this thread. With the advice I foud here I had no problems.
Some good to know information I used mirror ford part # #8U5A-17E678-EF instead of the 8U5A-17E678-EE, I have 2010 F150 with a sync mic in the mirror. This mirror has a set screw to hold it in place, makes it alot easier to take off.

backup camera
Greetings,
I recently bought a new 2011 XLT. I had to get a loaner for a day while I had a few things added. The loaner had the factory backup cam. Now, I wish I had bought that option! The dealer says its NOT something they can add. They could only add an aftermarket. I have seen on the forums that folks are adding the factory camera themselves, but I have not seen anyone describing doing that on the 2011.
From the factory, I have the sync system and autodim mirror + compass function (compass displays in dash). I have unplugged my mirror and verified that this disables the compass display, but does not affect the sync mic. The mic appears to be installed in the head liner just left of the map lights.
The main questions that I have are:
Does the existing wiring harness for my mirror have the needed connections for the mirror with monitor?
Can I just buy the needed mirror/monitor+compass and plug it in to my existing harness without having to run any wires above the head liner?
Thank you.
