I found a good deal on a 2014 XLT and it does not have a back-up camera. It has the basic SYNC package and probably the lowest AM/FM/CD receiver available in the XLT, so no screen at all. I've read tons of threads about adding a camera and have narrowed it down to adding a receiver with a screen or the rearview mirror camera.
Does anyone know if adding the aftermarket receiver with a screen capable of camera display will interfere with the SYNC function. I do use the voice commands often when driving. This is my concern with changing the radio. The rearview camera would serve the purpose, but the only kit I have found is about $500. I think changing the receiver would end up costing about the same and has the ability for a front mirror camera also.
I assume that adding a factory 4.4" display is not compatible with the wiring harness in my truck so I have ruled that out. I appreciate any info from those who have added a camera. Thanks!
I added a factory Nav touch screen stereo and a back up camera to my 2012. It was a bit more than $500, however it was practically all plug and play. I know there are aftermarket head units and interfaces that will work with Sync, you have to do a little more wire surgery though.
I wouldn't mind adding a factory setup like that. I believe the temperature controls are also different on those models. Did you buy this as a package or piece it together?
The Nav and backup camera from 4D tech was a kit. I'm happy with the work 4D tech did and they also will answer you questions. I added the Woodgrain and the temp controls separately. I think I put all the info in my write up. The only thing I haven't done is get the second door and actuator for making it a true dual zone AC system.
It is complete and the instruction are top notch. As I recall I only had to disassemble one wiring connector to add the wire for sync connectivity, and that only took about five minutes. Altogether I took about 90 minutes to install everything.
