Felpro used to offer an aftermarket plugwire shield that were attached by the exhaust bolts. Kind of like the chev style. OPPPPPS, did I mention a bad word?

What car heat shields? None listed in the 1949/59 or 1960/64 Passenger Car Parts Catalogs for any Y block.

They are the spark plug shields. They are in two"s I had bought 4 brand new. They bolt down by using the exhaust bolts.

You bought 'em from a parts store, because Ford never offered them for Y blocks installed in trucks after 1958.

Heat shields were used in 1961/76 FE, all 1958/67 M-E-L and 1964/78 FT engines, some 429/460 engines.

Not used in Passenger Car Y blocks, nor in truck Y blocks after 1958.

Thats wierd. I could have sworn my truck and my car had stock shields. I have worked on a few t birds and they seemed to have shields and looked factory. Should I post pics of the ones I have?

1955/57 Bird's came with Y blocks. Have the 1949/59 Ford Passenger Car Parts Catalog handy?

If so, take a look-see in Text, Section 94, Page 317 under Ford basic part number 9448.

See any heat shields listed for 1955/57 Bird's? Prolly not.

The only heat shields listed in this parts catalog for anything...are:

COSZ-9448-A Right & COSZ-9448-B Left: 1959 Thunderbird w/a 430 which is an M-E-L engine.

Ok cool. Well I guess I really dont need them...but I will be getting rams horns and it takes a while to get these so I might aswell order them. As far as the y block for my fairlane I might aswell put the smaller shields on since I have them.

Bill is correct about the shields. Any, were aftermarket, but WHY even use them. Silicon High temp wires can pretty much stand up to any heat for most street/strip application.

Yes thats true, its just that they were on the truck and i figured I would get another pair since I was going to end up getting a pair of rams horns for it.

So I have decided to get regular exhaust manifold gaskets. I was told not to use the ones that have the fiber backing since they tend to crack the manifold. Where can I get the right ones?
