140v.idm mod.

I havent chipped my truck and I was thinking of doing this mod. and i was wondering if chipping your truck takes care of raising your idm to 140v. if so, do you have to remove this mod and go back to the original resistor before you chip your truck?

No, you don't have to remove the mod with a chip. Mod's to remove if you have a chip is like the 10k mod, think that's it

thanks for the info. going to get started on it. Will silicone suffice to put the cover back on or should i get the grey goop from ford? Does it really make a difference?

Grey goop from ford is the best, that is what I used. I'm not going to recommend silicone, but maybe someone else will. You want to be sure it seals up good.

well, got all the parts to do it. read all the threads and replies i could find on this mod. Made me wonder if it was really worth it? Decided to go ahead, but since i don't have a spare idm,i figured i would get one off e-bay and modify that one and leave my stock one alone. Sounds like having a spare is a wise thing to have sitting under the back seat(just in case)

We have moded(?) three so far and I love it! The last one I took out of a van at the salvage yard-pick a part- for $20.00 this one is in my '96 now at 140v. there is one running in my buddies '97 and the first fried. That was the original problem, water in IDM. My friend fixed where it shorted and after it worked we did the mod. However, when it went the second time it appeared to have a lot of corrosion, which we attributed to the initial water problem.
