Exclamation NEWBIE TO CA...Smog Test Questions

I just got stationed at Travis AFB in Fairfield. I have spent all of my life in TX in non testing counties. I've heard some horror stories about the CARB or SMOG testing that goes on here in Cali. I was wondering if anybody had any insight on how to pass a smog test. Somebody told me I'll automatically fail because I have an aftermarket C.A.I (AEM),the Edge Evo tuner, and a flowmaster super 40 muffler. I still have my cats and O2 sensors.

Any help is greatly appriciated. T.I.A

The cold air kit will probably be a no-go, but may be ok if it has one of those CARB exemption numbers. The tuner is a no-go. Set it to stock, and pull it out. The exhaust is fine. Dont go to a place too close to base. Try a little closer to a different city. It's really not that hard to pass if your rig is running right.
If you know any crews around the C-5's, see if they can fly over Modesto for me. I really love that sound! I was in the Army(also in TX) many moons ago, and didn't hear them much.

All aftermarket intake kits and filters have been ok'd for diesel applications.

Is your truck still registered with a Texas plate? If so, since you're active military, you're allowed to continue registering your vehicle in Texas even though you're stationed here.

@pjwoolw... Up front or after I fail the test. And itll be like $70 right?

@Stewart_H... My truck is gas and I can keep it registered in TX only I have to get a smog done in order to get my base restriction sticker.

Huh?

Wow, things have certainly changed for military personnel since I've been out of law enforcement.

When I was a cop, all that was necessary was for the registered owner to keep their registration current in their respective state (as long as they still had residency there), and was not subject to California registration laws.
