A cheaper alternative is a 99 navigator motr. It is a cast iron block with the DOHC heads on it. A set of sullivan valve covers and you have a Ford hemi that i would love to put in mine.

Just think, a 1950 ford F2 on an 86 S-10 chassis with a 5.4 DOHC motor. Ahh life for a darksider would be good and we get a ford motor back into it. Man why can't I be rich???

i got the motor harness computer for a very cheap price. That is why I am wanting to find the best front end swap for this set-up.

I found out some info to share. This is based on a 99 navigator motr which has an iron block and DOHCs.

weight: 540 lbs
height 28 1/2 inches
long 23 5/8 inches
wide 28 1/4 inches

Basically a square box that is 28 w & T and 23 long. I think I need to do some measuring......

The ol skool jimmy is too damn big!! You could get the Eaton to work with a carb by remote mounting it and making it a blow thru system. Then you could add an air to air intercooler to make some more hp! Hell you could go hog wild and mount an Eaton on each side of the engine. feed them into an intercooler then feed them into a nice dual quad carb set up. Someday I plan to doo that set up(minus the carbs ) on my 7.3L IDI diesel.

The Coyote is worth a little surgery! A 400+ hp engine that can rev to 7200 rpm all day long. Just think what one would do with a couple turbos!!!

Back to reality I'm so poor I'll be lucky if I can get my simple 351W buttoned up and ready to go.

I might be wrong but I believe "1955 fordman's " Harley engine would still be a SOHC like the lightning engines. I don't think the DOHC 5.4 got a Eaton until The Ford GT and Shelby GT500 got them.

But even without a blower the DOHC are drool worthy engines!!

I like your plan. But that S-10 chassis would still give me a rash!!

The suspension is a 2003 or Crown Victoria. They used an aluminum suspension crossmember that bolted into the car frame. Now this isn't a direct bolt in deal on the F100's it does require adding 4 sleeves( and I believe also a couple brackets ) and boxing a small area of the frame. But it is far simpler then adding an aftermarket MII crossmember.

Some guys will say it's too wide for the 53-56 Ford trucks but that really depends on if you like the more modern looking wheels. The older crown vics are narrower but they aren't even close to a bolt in deal. To use them you have to clip the frame. But there is a guy that did that and installed a lightning engine in one of the post below. The 2003 Crown vic/Grand Marquis suspension is a much simpler install but it does limit the wheel selection due to the track width. There are a loit of guys that like to say it won't work, it can't be done, etc. Then there are the guys that just do it.

If you need/want advice on the 5.4 install hit me up. I am doing a 4.6 DOHC into my 53. I want to go Carb though I think. I have been talking to Sullivan and wish KarKraft was still around as they were a lot cheaper for the intakes.

Dang...thats a sweet lookin setup. I never heard of setting up a mod mill to run on a carb. Then again, crawling out from under my rock would be a good idea once in a while...

It takes the add on dist to make it really work. That 5.4 DOHC is sooooo cooool.

If I remember right the harlkey is a 2 valve deal though still a good engine.

Yeah I know about the S-10 frame as it bothers me too. But then I think about it this way. I could have gone out and spent $10,000 to $15,000 for an after market frame with the IFS, pwr steering and pwr disc brakes or i could get a s-10 chassis that will do the same though admittedly not as cool but for the difference in price I can handle it. SO this way the rash isn't so bad....

I know that eventually this motor has got to come out for firewall filling and repair and it is not the newest thing out there. perhaps, just perhaps I can stumble over a 99navigator 5.4 DOHC complete with trans that would fit in my chassis. At least I can still afford to dream.

Carb Conversion Kit for 99-04 Ford 4.6 SOHC

Thanks for posting this. I really like the idea of dumping EFI for carb. In the case of a rod, you can see the engine, instead of hoses and plastic covers.

Here is a link to the Edelbrock carb conversion kit for the 4.6 SOHC. It's $1050:

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/r...858&i=16716156

Here is a link to a Hot Rod article where they put this carb conversion kit into a 4.6:

Ford 4.6 Engine - Junkyard Jewel Ford 4.6l 2v - Engine Build Up - Hot Rod Magazine

Per the article, the preferred route is a 99 or newer 4.6. For older than 99, newer heads need to swapped in.

Thus, to dump EFI and all of the business that goes along with it (assuming you already have a 99-04 4.6 SOHC):

Conversion kit: $1050
Carb (new): $700
Labor: ?

This really sounds like the way to go.
