1979 460 LEAKING INTAKE MANIFOLD??

Is it possible for the back of a 1979 460 intake manifold to be leaking oil?? There seems to be oil coming from that area leaking down back of motor onto trans. What can be done to diagnose and fix?
Thanks.

Check the oil pressure sender at the back of the block.
It will often run down the bellhousing.

Get some good degreaser and clean the area thoroughly. Inspect the area to make sure that you didn't miss any areas, or atleast moke note of them. Run the vehicle, then inspect for fresh oil. You may want to purchase a mirror.

Not very high tech, but it works well.

The 460 manifolds are extremely heavy as far as intakes go, it is real easy to have the rear portion of the intake gasket slide out of position and leak.

A tip we used to use is to degrease with brake or carb cleaner and spray with desenex foot powder.
The white residue will show any leaks right away.

The sender is the little tin can looking thing nestled at the back of the intake manifold.
(sorry for the crappy cell phone pic)

Just replace the sender, if it's leaking.

Leak

The top left transmission bolt goes all the way through the block into the area below the intake. Sometimes they leak. Take out this bolt and seal it with teflon tape and reinstall it. More likley your leak is the sending unit and I sure as heck would not replace the intake manifold to solve this minor problem. IMHO!
