Replacing distributor stator. Do I need a press?
After playing distributor roulette and getting random stalls and 211 PIP code in CM I have decided on a Motorcraft stator. Replacing with a good ICM when it stalls does no good. After I knock the pin out of the gear will I need a press to get the gear off the shaft? If so I need to find one to use this weekend.

I've removed mine with two flat bladed screw drivers. Just be sure you're not pressing directly against the metal plate right underneath it, or it'll bend. (If you do bend it, it's not too difficult to get back into shape).
To reinstall, find a deep socket that fits over it and tap it back on.

Done. I found a friend with a press because I did not want to chance the oil pump shaft not stabbing in. Marked everything that could be marked for alignment before pulling distributor and more later. Bought a rolled pin punch set at Harbor Freight. Engine runs great and no 211 nor no start yet.
