Stalling Issue while driving f150
Stalling Issue while driving f150
Okay well after a month of chasing my tail I resolved my stalling issue.
Here what I went through, and what I think the issue was.
I sent my truck to my neighboring Auto Garage for Inspection. These guys are literally my neighbors so When the truck was finished they parked it where I normally do at my house.
I got a text from the Garage saying that the Truck stalled when being parked and wouldn't restart. I thought this was suspicious but whatever.
I put a new TFI module on it and the Truck started right up. I thought all was well so I drove the truck on a 50 mile round trip. Upon returning from the trip and exiting the Highway I stalled on the road.
It started up right away and got me home.
It continued to do this for the next 2 days. I figured It was either the crap TFI module I bought (or the DIALECTRIC Grease it came with) so I Bought a MOTORCRAFT Module. The Motorcraft Module (Bought from Ford Dealership) Didn't come with any Grease so I purchased Gold Intel Heatsink grease from a computer store and Installed module. It seemed to fix the issue. I drove a good bit around town and then took a 30 mile drive to another town to purchase a Bumper off craigslist. It ran fine.
On the way home I started stalling again! I couldn't believe it.
I drove it the next week while it intermittently stalled more and more frequently.
Until it wouldn't run more than a few seconds at a time.
I had it towed home on a flat bed and replaced the Stator (hall effect switch).
Nothing changed.
I then changed the TPS sensor. Still nothing,
I have already replaced every other ignition part to this point so I started considering fuel pressure, or Ignition switch itself.
Finally I realized it wasn't getting spark once it stalled.
I decided to reroute the TFI module off of the Distributor and Mount it on a heat sink. I bought the Kit from McCully Racing and changed it out with another TFI module New from the Ford Dealership.
This time It works! Its been over a week now and I made a 1 1/2 hour drive and its still going with no stalling issues.
Here is what I believe to be the cause, and feel free to correct me but its the only thing that makes sense to me.
I think the stator was bad , causing the TFI modules to fail prematurely. When I replaced the Stator I reinstalled the latest MC TFI module and it still stalled.
I think that the Stator already caused the MC Module to fail thus I needed to install a new TFI after changing the Stator.
Now I have a new Stator and TFI and all is well.
It goes to show that It could take some tail chasing to find the issue.
Who would have thought it would take 3 TFI modules to fix my truck!
Good Luck and keep persistent!
