Righting a Wrong

In recent years, we've begun to see more and more new trucks modified to look like old ones, usually consisting of simple retro touches like wheels and stripe packages. However, most of these offerings have been limited to the Ford F-150 and its various "heritage" treatments, not its big brother, the Super Duty. Now, that right has seemingly been wronged by the Washington-based custom truck shop called DelFAB, as we can see in this video from Ford Era.

Switching Gears

DelFAB typically spends its time modifying vintage pickups, but this time around, it wanted to do something a little different - a Super Duty-based tribute to the Free Wheeling package of the past, which existed long before the Super Duty came along. Thus, they went out and purchased a brand new 2023 F-350 Crew Cab pickup and proceeded to convert it into a regular cab.

Difficult Task

As one might imagine, the other purpose of this build was to take it to this year's SEMA Show, where it obviously turned plenty of heads. DelFAB wanted to start with a high-trim Platinum trim version of the redesigned 2023 Super Duty, a desire that almost didn't happen because of production limitations at the time, but luckily, it was able to secure this one just in time to get it ready for SEMA.

Tear Down

From there, DelFAB tore the truck down to its bare frame, but instead of chopping up the factory body, they simply located a 2020 regular cab and swapped it over, since they're identical to the 2023 units. Ultimately, in fact, DelFAB used three different trucks to make this one, swapping over all kinds of little parts like hoses and brake lines in the process.

Old and New

From there, they added the requisite retro stripes from the old Free Wheeling Package, along with those rather iconic white wagon wheels that adorned so many old trucks over the years - though in this case, they measure in at 20 inches in diameter and are wrapped with large 40-inch Mickey Thompson tires.

Work of Art

Throw in some chrome pieces and lots of additional lighting, and the exterior of this rig certainly looks the part, especially when it's riding up in the sky thanks to a nine-inch lift. The suspension is a work of art on its own accord, fitted with an array of aftermarket parts that are most certainly better than anything we could buy decades ago.

More to Come?

Even though it's a decidedly modern rig, this new Super Duty certainly looks right at home with its retro treatment, which is an interesting development. Heritage versions of the Ford F-150 have become incredibly popular in recent years, so we wouldn't be surprised to see that same treatment applied to more Super Duty trucks moving forward - even if they don't quite go to the extremes that this one does.
