Coming Soon

The venerable Ford F-150 hasn't received any major changes, just a few minor updates, since its complete overhaul back in 2015. But now we're on the cusp of some, well, more minor changes for 2021. But in all fairness, these updates are quite welcome. The biggest question right now is, when will we see the latest F-150, and when will it hit dealerships?

New Dates

Originally, we were supposed to see the 14th gen F-150 in April, with production starting in mid-August. Of course, those dates have been pushed back because Ford plants have been shut down since mid-March. And while we still don't know when the new F-150 will be unveiled, we do know when it will be available to order and begin production.

Pushed Back

According to reports online, order banks for the new truck are set to open on June 14. That's a bit of a push back from the original date of May 11, but completely understandable considering the length of the current shutdown.

Starting Production

Ford reopened its European factories on May 4, and U.S. facilities are reportedly on track to restart production in a limited capacity on May 18. That said, the actual production of the 2021 F-150 at the Dearborn truck plant is scheduled to begin on September 28, a few weeks later than the original date of August 17.

Some Good News

The Kansas City plant will begin production a little while later on October 26, versus the original scheduled start date of September 14. Right now, it appears that tornado damage suffered by a Borg Warner facility that produces F-150 transfer cases in South Carolina won't have a major effect on any of these dates.

Waiting Game

Meanwhile, those who want to stick with the 13th gen F-150 have until May 29 to order a 2020 model. But as for when we'll get to see the new truck, well, it's hard to say. You have to imagine that Ford wants to unveil its latest F-150 to the masses in a special way if that's possible.

Educated Guess

If orders do begin on June 15, you have to imagine that we'll see the new F-150 sometime near the end of May, at the latest. But for now, we'll just have to sit tight and await the next version of America's long-time favorite pickup.
