Ford SVT Lightning

Nice first or second generation Lightnings are still abundant in the marketplace, many of them with low mileage. That's because a lot of folks bought these trucks new and carefully stored them away in a climate controlled garage, never using them like actual trucks, but prices are surprisingly reasonable. We've seen perfect examples with very low miles go in the $30k range. There's plenty of room to grow if you're patient enough to wait another decade or two, and you have a fun weekend cruiser in the meantime.

2000-2011 Ford Harley-Davidson F-Series

Combine the legendary Harley-Davidson name and America's favorite truck, and you've got a future collectible. Not a lot of H-D F-150's were produced between 2000 and 2012, and even fewer of 2004-2011 F-250s are out there. Probably the best one to get is the F-150 from 2000-2003, which received a slightly detuned supercharged 5.4 liter V8 from the Lightning. On all other years, the H-D moniker signifies not much more than an appearance package.

1992-1996 Ford Bronco

The 1990s Bronco is most famous for a certain police chase, but it's beginning to gain steam as a collector's item. First generation Bronco prices have gone through the roof, and the early 2nd gen from the late 1970s is getting there. Most folks don't like the looks of the 80's Broncos, which has kept their price low, but most everybody loves the 90's versions of Ford's big body SUV, and it features modern fuel injected drivetrains. Plus, given the fact that the forthcoming new Bronco is slotted to go back to being midsize, this might be the last full-size Bronco Ford ever builds.

2009-2014 Ford VT Raptor

As a limited production, high-performance truck, the Raptor is already a great future collectible, then consider how many will undoubtedly be flogged off-road and beaten on; finding a nice one years from now is going to be hard. With Ford's decision to ditch the V8 and use the Ecoboost V6 in the new generation, the 1st gen Raptor might be the one to buy if you are looking for collectibility. At this point, it's probably safe to say that it will be the only V8 Raptor we'll ever see.

2000-2005 Ford Excursion

It might seem kind of funny to think of the Excursion as a future collectible, but this mammoth beast of an SUV has some credentials to recommend it. When it went into production in 2000, the Excursion was the largest SUV produced by anyone. Environmentalists hated it, and some of them were vandalized as a result. Less than 200,000 left the factory between 2000-2005, but finding a good one now ought to be easy enough. Many folks consider the Excursion to be the pinnacle of SUV development, and it's hard to imagine anyone building something like it ever again.

2014 Ford F-150 Tremor

The F-150 Tremor is one of the more exclusive Ford Trucks ever built, mostly because it was only produced in 2014. The Tremor paid homage to Ford's two-wheel drive performance trucks of the past, like the Lightning, but it was not as complete a package. It used a 365 hp Ecoboost V6 for motivation, with a healthy 420 lb-ft of torque, and was the only way to get that motor in the smaller, lighter regular cab short bed truck. With a deep 4.10 geared rear end and peak torque coming at a low 2,500 rpm, the Tremor was quick off the line, but it lacked the Lightning's upgraded suspension, so it isn't as great in the corners. It did have a rather nice appearance package though, and the Tremor is destined to be a future collectible because only a couple thousand were made.

1986-89 Ford Ranger GT

There's no reliable production data out there on the Ranger GT, which was offered from 1986 to 1989, but we know there aren't really many out there. The GT added nicer wheels, body color painted bumpers, and "ground effects" in 1988 and 1989. A prototype was built and tested in 1990 using the 3.0 liter Taurus SHO V6, but sadly it never went into production. Despite their rarity, Ranger GT's don't command a ton of money on the marketplace today, if you can find one.
