1. 3.3 Liter V-6

For 2018, the F-150's base 3.3-liter V6 engine is all-new and much improved on the outgoing 3.5-liter V6. The addition of dual port and direct injection helps deliver more power and torque than the outgoing motor, and Ford claims it's more fuel efficient as well. The 3.3 produces eight more horsepower and 12 more lb-ft of torque than the outgoing 3.5 for a total of 290 hp and 265 lb-ft of torque. That's pretty amazing when you consider that a decade ago, Ford's 4.6-liter V8 was producing only 231 hp and 293 lb-ft of torque.

2. 2.7 Liter Ecoboost V6

The smallest and most economical engine in the F-150 lineup, the turbocharged 2.7-liters Ecoboost V6, has also received a number of updates for 2018. The second generation 2.7 Ecoboost produces the same horsepower - 325 - as the first gen engine. But torque jumps 25 lb-ft to an incredible 400. Which, coincidentally, is the same torque output as the new 5.0-liter V8. And for the first time, you can opt to pair the 2.7 with Ford's new 10-speed automatic transmission, an option formerly limited to 3.5-liter Ecoboost models.

3. 3.5 Liter Ecoboost V6

In the old days, V8s ruled the roost in Ford's world dominating F-150. But today, they consider the 3.5-liter Ecoboost to be a range-topping powerplant. It's numbers certainly dictate that, as the boosted V6 produces 375 hp (less than the 5.0) and 470 lb-ft of torque (a lot more than the 5.0). Having seen a host of improvements just last year, the second gen 3.5 remains unchanged in the 2018 F-150. But a 400 hp/480 lb-ft version is available in the 2018 Expedition, so it wouldn't be surprising to see that same engine trickle down to the F-150 sometime in the near future.

4. 3.0 Liter Power Stroke V6

The big news for 2018 is that you'll be able to order an F-150 with a diesel engine for the first time in the iconic truck's history. The new 3.0-liter Power Stroke is also the only new F-150 engine that Ford hasn't released power figures for yet. But they have confirmed that the 3.0 will be a new engine specifically designed for the F-150, not just a redo of the existing 3.0-liter diesel they currently produce for Land Rover.

5. 5.0 Liter V8

Great news V8 fans - Ford hasn't exactly given up on the 5.0 just yet. In fact, it's received an update of its own with the addition of advanced dual port and direct injection technology. And just like the V6s, that change has led to improvements in both power and efficiency. The new 5.0 produces 10 more horsepower and 13 more lb-ft of torque than the outgoing model - 395 hp and 400 lb-ft, respectively. Ford hasn't released fuel economy figures for any of its new engines yet but promises that we'll get more mpg's to go along with that power increase. And that's what you call progress.
