Okay. My A/C is working fine, but I cannot get it to stop blowing out the defrost vents up against the windshield. I have 425,000 on the truck and one time before, I disconnected the battery for about 30 minutes and I think the dampers reset and didn't have the issue. My mechanic is moving his shop, and he said that there are vacuum things going on in the dash and he can fix it, but in south Alabama, A/C is very important. Any thoughts?
The mode is vacuum controlled and if vacuum is lost, the default discharge is through the defrost ducts. You most likely have either a broken vacuum line or no vacuum due to a blown fuse, bad pump or something along those lines. There's a vacuum pump on the right fender, just forward of the HVAC blower. Put the ignition in the ON position with the engine off. Does the pump run continuously? Does it run at all?
Also, the fuse for the pump is under the dash; 15A fuse in position 27. There should be +12v to the vacuum pump harness connector on the light blue wire with the pink tracer with the key in the RUN position, and battery ground on the black wire.
