Question 1996 ECM-IV

I think I have a problem with my ECM IV. The symptoms are engine cranks but barely runs. Exhaust is smokey and smells very rich. Fuel pumps both come on when the ignition is turned on but they both stay on. ODB I port doesn't work.

I think it is the ECM. The original part is F6TF-12A650-AHA. My truck is a 1996 Ford Truck-F250 EFI, 7.5L,4x4, E4OD transmission, Federal version. I took the original one apart and the caps had some leakage and I changed them out. I inspected the traces and don't see any problem. There was a little corrosion on some of the FET's but it didn't seem to be bridging. There was one resistor that was burned out. I couldn't read it to be sure of the value but I looked closely at some pictures of ECM-IV parts on-line

and I think it was red-black-red. I replaced the resistor, I think it starts a little easier but the fuel pumps still stay on and it runs rich, no ODB-I either.

I have ordered replacement parts from three different companies now and all three have sent me the wrong part. All three were different and all three were some version of ECM-V,

I am looking for any other suggestions on troubleshooting my ECM or a reliable supplier that will sell me a working part.

Are those pics after or before you replaced the caps?

Burnt resistor should be same as the circled one I believe.

all three were some version of EEC- V,…
Fixed that for you. The system is electronic engine control- EEC

There have been a few threads where the computer was still not functioning after replacing the capacitors and/ diodes.

I don't have the skills to replace parts on a board and expect the board to start working. I do have search skills and eBay has a few listed. Expect $400.

I have owned my 95 F250 since 1997 and I am building up my spare war chest. You should have a spare EEC-IV computer on the shelf.
