Yellow hash mark on transmission temp gauge?

I just noticed the little yellow mark between the gray and red areas of the transmission temp gauge. I swear it wasn’t there before, AND why does it have it, but engine temp doesn’t? Bern driving this truck with this dash/gauge configuration for 3-1/2 years! Am I losing my mind?

Meaning of Green/Yellow/Red Hash Marks on the Ford 6.7L Transmission Temperature Gauge
On the Ford 6.7L Powerstroke transmission temperature gauge, the green, yellow, and red hash marks are part of the temperature scale indicator that shows the current transmission oil temperature relative to safe operating ranges.

How it works:

Green hash marks indicate the normal operating range for the transmission. For the 6.7L, Ford considers normal to be 190–260°F Ford-Trucks.com. Staying within this range is ideal for longevity.

Yellow hash marks mark the warning range — temperatures approaching the upper limit of normal. This is where the transmission is working harder and may need cooling adjustments.

Red hash marks indicate high temperature — the transmission is overheating and the system is likely limiting performance to protect it. This is a service required condition.

What to do if you see red:

Stop driving and allow the transmission to cool before resuming.

Check coolant and transmission fluid levels, and ensure the transmission cooler is functioning.

If the red mark persists, have the transmission cooling system inspected.

Normal driving temps:

Unloaded: ~200–210°F

Light towing: ~210–220°F

Heavy towing or steep grades: up to ~240°F is common and often within safe limits Ford-Trucks.com+1.
Key takeaway:
The green/yellow/red hash marks are a visual guide to ensure you’re not pushing the transmission beyond safe limits. Staying in the green zone is best; yellow means watch for cooling needs; red means take immediate action to cool down and check for issues.

OP, you just never paid attention to the little yellow mark. Looking at pictures of my 2012 6.2, 2016 6.7 & 2021 7.3 all had the yellow indicator mark.

Probably. I’m diligent at watching gauges, but for some reason that yellow mark jumped out at me the other day. 🤷🏼‍♂️
