Hello, I have a 73’ f100 custom and when I acquired the truck the temp gauge was not working due to it being the original and went out. So I replaced the part with a CJ Pony replacement. But the temp is reading below the first line after driving it for 25 mins in 95°-100° desert heat, I have attached a picture to where it reads at and does not go higher from. Please let me know if this may be normal or not or if I have an incorrect Ohms gauge. Thank you all have a blessed one.
Reaing is very low. Did you replace the sender unit.
thanks for the reply, but I have not replaced the sender unit looks in fairly good condition to me, but then again I don’t know if maybe it could be the original sending unit.
What beartracks said. Check your sending unit. make sure it hasn't been replaced, disconnected, or maybe not working correctly. Might need a multimeter that can measure ohms. 10 ohms = full oil pressure and ~73 ohms for low pressure.
If someone swapped in another engine from a vehicle with a warning light instead of a gauge, then it won't work - if they didn't swap the senders.
You can turn the key to accessory or run, and ground the sender wire, from the gauge, and the gauge should peg full hot. There are resistors you can use to test the gauge throughout its range.
