I'm sure many of you with the noted transmission have experienced numerous issues with this transmission. I have a 22 F350 with the 7.3 that I bought new. At around 7000 miles I experienced a jarring clunk when shifting from Park to Drive. Since then this has intermittently happened when going into Drive or Reverse. I have also experienced other issues like a random rear wheel lockup while going 60MPH when trying to make a pass. Truck not moving for a several seconds after applying the gas at a stop sign, Hard clunking downshifts when stopping for a light as if I were rear ended. I actually looked behind me a few times to see if I had been rear ended. And recently I am noticing alot more clunking during downshifts when slowing done or trudging along in traffic. Frankly I would describe is as driving an old dump truck with bad Ujoints. Lots of clunking. My 2005 6.0 with 200k miles drives smoother than this truck. I have taken it to the dealer several times and of course, being that they happen intermittently, they will tell me all is well. Which is bull ****. I currently have 90K miles on the truck and I have the extended warranty til 100k so I really want to get this tranny fixed/replaced before the warranty is up because I am sure if will fail shortly after then I will be stuck with the repair bill. Has anyone had any luck convincing Ford dealer that the transmission has a problem? I know they know this tranny is junk and has a ton if issues with CDF drums and planetary gears. Just looking to hear from others that are experiencing similar issues and what they have done. I checked the fluid and level appears find but the fluid was dark brown. It smelled fine but certainly had seen better days. Thanks for any input.

I’m not sure what you want members to say. It is up to a dealer to evaluate the transmission and warranty work. Based on your description it could probably use a transmission fluid service.
Good luck with it. Mine has been to a dealer once already and I got the NPF brush off. It is going to go to a different dealer for another transmission evaluation and a few other things that need done.
My '22 6.7 has been fine other than a 3-4 shift flare that was annoying. I got ASAP tunes and it's been great ever since. I changed my filter and fluid at 30k miles, currently at just under 53k. I think it's more of a programming issue than a hardware issue.

I guess I was hoping to hear experiences with others that had luck with getting theirs repaired. I appreciate your response. I’ll be taking to another dealer next time too.

thanks for your response. The last time I took it in I had asked them to do the transmission fluid service. They told me it wasn’t needed til 150k and that it was like $2500. I was like that’s freaking crazy. It’s definitely a hardware issue. When it acts up, it’s like I’m driving an old beat up clunky truck.
I had similar issues. Brought it in twice and they could not duplicate, but did the accelerated valve break in. On the 3rd visit I told them it needed the solonoids/valves replaces as per the TSB. They called back and said it needs a full rebuild. They did the rebuild and said the Drum had slipped and the clutches were burnt up. It was fixed under warranty. the hard 5-3 down**** is still there since they did not touch the solenoids/valves, but not as frequent . I'm out of warrany now. I have ordered a 5 star tune to get rid of the skip shifting.
I changed my fluid & filter at 60k miles. I also installed an oversized aluminum pan. I noticed some shifting and drivability issues immediately. Long story short, the bushing on the filter somehow dislodged and was only partially sealing and the cover gasket was pinched near the engine allowing some fluid to escape. I corrected my errors and refilled the trans. Soon thereafter the truck drained its 6 month old Motorcraft AGM batteries dead and all systems went berserk. I got a wrench display and the truck wouldn't move. I had to reset the codes when the batteries charged up some. Since the filter change the truck clunks hard into Drive. Installing 37" tires actually helps absorb the clunk. Overall shifting gradually returned to normal except for going into Drive. I'm at 88k miles now and so far it's still going OK. I'll change the filter & fluid again this fall at 90k. I only use the truck for towing & hauling now. Tomorrow I'll change the engine oil & all the fuel filters. I'll be using Rotella T6 15W40 and a caterpillar tall filter now that the truck sits up higher with the 37" tires.
I had the harsh downshift that caused rear wheels to lock up and nearly send me into a ditch one time. Scared the hell out of me since it almost sent me into a ditch as I was accelerating out of a turn. That was at around 10k miles, Since then though it has been fine. Hoping that was just a one time occurrence.
