Ran errands today in Old Betsy . On the way to my truck at Lowe's I saw an older gentleman smiling and heading towards my truck. I think it must be a guy that had an old Ford truck or at least knows something about and appreciates old vehicles.
He says, "Nice truck. Is it in the 40's?" I said "no. In the 50's. It's a 54."
He said "You must have a lot of aftermarket parts on it."
I I was offended but didn't let it show... maybe not. Those that know me and my truck know it is very stock with a few alterations which some of you might list here .
He pointed to the F-100 hood emblem. "Original" I said. "What about the hubcaps?" he said. I said, "This a very stock truck just like Grandpa had it. "
I had to explain why the "aftermarket" Signal Stat turn signal switch is on the steering column. He said it must be hard to steer without power steering. I made a joke that it has "Armstrong Power Steering. I didn't go into the F350 steering box I installed nor the ease of steering with bias ply tires
Maybe I made the guys day. I know I made him smile
I'm surprised he didn't say "my grandpa had one just like it but is was red and was a chevy". My '54 has a '56 grill in it so it even baffles the gearhead guys. Love your stock truck! Have a great day, Steve
