Highboy Power steering
Highboy Power steering
I stopped and looked at a 1974 Highboy that was for sale. I thought at first that it didn't have power steering because there wasn't the usual hoses and ram on the front end.
I popped the hood and checked the box and found that it did have power steering??? This is not the usual custom power steering add on that I have seen described here. I looks like the original armstrong steering box was used along with the drag link and pitman. A "power adapter" was intalled between it and the column with the steering column shortened and rebolted to the front of the "adapter".
I got a number off of the "adapter" along with some wording.......62200 B and SCHRILLO and either CO LA or COLA.
Has anyone ever seen a set up like this before? If so where can I get one?
Thanks.

Holy Cow!
Posted 4 1/2 years ago! Well maybe someone else knows something about the Schrillo Power Steering unit, and I'd love to hear about it. I was always hoping someone used the design to continue manufacturing and I could find another or parts. When I bought my 72 F100 4X4 in 1975, it had a Schrillo unit on it. It was awesome, but I think it put a lot of stress on the first two steering boxes I had because it was inline between the steering wheel and the steering gear, as "rustygreen76ford" said. Now that I am a more sane driver it would probably be fine. I have never heard anyone mention this brand or unit, and I have asked lots of people. When I got the pickup, I remember there was a decal on the wind wing "Schrillo Stock Car Racing Power Steering". I still have my whole unit, but it developed cracks in the casting, which I chased for several years by brazing, but it got to be too much, so its all in a box (somewhere). I still have the 72 pickup!

I'm pretty sure that there were no hoses off the ram assist at least i think that was the setup on the 77 highboys. then again they didn't even offer powersteering on the 74's correct me if i'm wrong so it couldn't be orriginal?

HI folks, new kid on the block .Just bought my first FORD.67 Bronco Wagon! 289,3 on the tree, has been cut though. But it has the schrillo power steering set up on it.The origanal owner said he bought it off the lot @ Golden Motors Inc. in Golden,Colorado on 3-9-67.He said it came with this system on from the factory.I have the vin# if any one cares.its U15NLA90313. I was told that there was only a few hundred or a few thousand made with this unit or set up on them. Again, This is my first time dealing with any ford products,so Im not sure. But I have all the paperwork and even the original owners manual with his name and adress of the dealership, dates of oil changes stamped from the dealer inside. Along with the warranty card for the Warn locking hubs stapled inside. So its hard not to beleive him when he told my daddy in-law this stuff. But anyway, this is a manual box with a power unit(schrillo Co.)added to it! My power unit is ok,but my steering box is toast! Anyone have a manual box they dont need thats in good shape, and not loose as a goose.lol!!Thanks guys!l888teerrr!
There were TWO totally different types of Power Assist P/S. The parts do not interchange.
All 1973's, 1974's before serial number T80,001 used GARRISON Power Assist P/S.
1974's from serial number T80,001, 1975/76's and 1977's before serial number Y20,001 (**) used BENDIX Power Assist P/S.
Power Assist P/S: Two P/S hoses, one pressure, one return...route from the P/S pump to the Power Assist's control valve.
Two shorter hoses, one pressure, one return...route from the control valve to the Power Assist's ram cylinder.
No hoses route to the gearbox, because it has nothing to do with Power Assist P/S.
** The last High Boy was assembled before serial number Y20,001 which occured mid-model year 1977.

There was no P/S available for Bronco's until midyear 1972 (from serial number P40,001).
1972/77: The P/S pump is the Ford type, same as used on 1965/77 passenger cars. The P/S gearbox is of the integral type, made by Saginaw.
Since there was no P/S available 1966/71, the Schrillo P/S system (which I've never heard of, and there's no parts catalog listings for it), was dealer installed.
C7TZ3504L .. Manual Steering Gearbox / Marked: C7TA-3504-U and/or 24JC05 / Obsolete / Fits: 1966/77 Bronco.
GREEN SALES CO. in Cincinnati OH has TWO = 800-543-4959.
No Ford Dealer, no other obsolete parts vendor has any.
btw: You should post threads in the Early Bronco (1966/77) forum, as you'll get far more responses. This is the 1973/79 F100 and larger F Series truck forum.
1973/77 High Boys (F250 4WD Regular & Crew Cab's) offered (optional) Power Assist P/S which has nothing to do with the steering gearbox. The manual gearbox is used w/ or w/o P/S.

Do you have P/N's and sources for the Bendix hoses? I have purchased everything that you have given me info for, for what it's worth...
I need more original parts as well...
Thanks brownfoot.
