Can anybody ID this steering gearbox? This is in my '66 that a PO upgraded to power steering. It has mucho slop in it so I want to replace it, but I wanna make darn sure I get the correct one. I also have an IdidIt steering column so the dimensions have to be the same.
Good luck! I can't tell what it is but I have the same one and wanted a rebuilt as well. You will have a very hard time finding the "right" one. All the rebuilds I found were for 6 cylinder engines, yes it makes a difference. FWIW, I told the parts guy to get me one for a '76 way back when I did the conversion. DO NOT give them your core until you have a new one installed in your truck, that bit me hard. I ended up buying one from Red Head Steering gears and it's perfect. Great company, great service, but not cheap.

The ID number on the sector shaft cover was used with the Ford/Saginaw P/S gearbox. This gearbox was first installed in 1969 F100/250 2WD & F350 from serial number D96,001.
1966/68 F100/250 2WD, 1969 F100/250 2WD before serial number D96,001 used Bendix P/S .. Originally there was a metal ID tag attached to the gear box with the steering box ID number on it, but...
Most of these tags are missing now. The input shaft and sector shaft seal kits for the Ford/Saginaw gearbox were the same for many years.
And be aware that auto parts store "so called" rebuilt gear boxes are nothing more than resealed gearboxes!
Replace with a Red Head Steering Gearbox and be done with it.
Thanks for the pointers and info guys. I checked with Red Head and they have a "drop in" replacement so I believe that's the way I'll go. https://redheadsteeringgears.com/pro...steering-gear/
How's this for play? Steering wheel turns but no tire movement.

That's normal if the engine is not running. Once started they shouldn't do that. I had the same concern after the red head box went in (this is where their excellent customer service came in). Called and a very knowledgeable guy talked me though what I was seeing, he told me to start the truck and all was fine.
Here is with the engine running, this is to first decernable tire movement. The bushings and other front end parts are tight. Probably ~45 degrees of steering wheel movement.
