Help!

Hello all! I am currently working on an 82 f150 with the 5.8 351 Windsor. The motor itself is good and runs great but all the wiring under the hood has been chewed and torn up. Would love to get it rewired and cleaned up a lot! I’m needing some pictures and diagrams of engine bays and harnesses under the hood so I can get everything as close to factory as possible. Also interested in any suggestions you have! This is my first truck I’m planning on restoring.

You can find the wiring there.

Welcome to FTE

Note the 98% or the engine bay wiring is part of the trucks main harness that runs across the top of the dashboard.
The ALT has a harness that is not part of the main harness as is the DSII IGN system harness.
If you have AC That is not part of the main harness also.

Also besides 300 six and v8 engine bay harness difference there is a different between single and dual tanks, EFI or carb and in tank electric pumps for the main harness

So depending on what all was eaten It might be best if you can find a v8 engine truck for the engine bay side of the harness and splice it onto yours.
I would think the wire colors would be the same or pretty close.
Just my .02

It's unsightly but it looks like you have rodent issues. Head over to a discount or bulk grocery store and get a BIG canister of Cayenne pepper. Sprinkle this around and under your engine compartment. This will stop the little cheese thieves quick. It will stop further wiring damage while you repair your truck.

I'm not sure if LMC truck has wiring harnesses, but you can look there.

FWIW, I keep a Tom Cat mouse block under the seat and one behind, under the battery tray. I also have them around the house, sheds, garage, basement. No more rodents running in or around my toys.

Get you truck running well, maybe you don't need to do much tot he body... Oh, check out Hagerty Insurance, might be chaeper than normal auto insurance. I valued my truck low and don't drive it much. Under $300, for the year.

Any of the rewire harness kits you find are not for our trucks (universal or Chevy) and would take a lot of work to rewire the whole truck.
This is why I said to see just how bad the wires are in the engine bay and maybe find wires for under the hood for another truck (junk yard) and splice them in.

I just got my new LMC parts catalog today. (Wheee!!! ) It's lists "Painless Performance" wiring harnesses. You can check those out, either through their site or the Painless web site.

Unless they have made a new product line, the Painless harnesses are just universal hot rod wiring. Nothing will plug into the original Ford components. If you have to splice all the old connectors in place to plug into the Ford components, you might as well repair what you have.

Got a spare kidney you could sell on the black market?:

No experience with this company, but their wiring kits look to be vehicle specific, unlike the universal hot rod kits offered by others.
