Malfunctioning door locks (potential class action) Super Duty 4th generation
According to information I have gathered from various sources on the web, forums, blogs, and FB groups many 4th gen Super Duty owners have been experiencing door lock malfunctioning issues. For me, my rear passenger door lock intermittently would work. Thankfully it has not continued; however, my front passenger door lock broke twice within a year’s time. It was initially repaired under the manufacturers warranty, and then malfunctioned again in less than a year (same lock). Due to time and foreign travel constraints, I was unable to return to the dealership within that year’s time after the initial repair (one year service warranty). In addition, the manufacturers warranty had also expired The dealership somewhat did me right in that they provided me with no cost labor, but I had to pay for the part, however, cost and inconvenience is not my concern here.
Moving forward, should these locks continue to malfunction, I plan to reach out to corporate and give them a chance to resolve an apparent well known issue. Trust me, they know about this issue, but it is more cost effective to do nothing than an all out recall. Should I receive pushback or resistance, I will pursue a legal coarse of action.
This issue should not be occurring over and over without a definitive solution. If anyone reading this has been experiencing a lock malfunctioning issue, please reply with a quick “same here” or “me too”. Please include your year model, how many occurrences, and what door(s) were affected. I am merely collecting data at this point for a potential legal course of action.
To many owners, these ongoing lock issues are merely an irritating nuisance and mild financial burden. I submit, I would like you to look at this as more of a safety issue that could very well could pose a hindrance to an emergency egress, or restriction to life saving medical care (I was a former professional firefighter as well as a emergency department RN-retired). Trust me, these are not words that any corporation ever wants to hear from a legal standpoint, and when they do, they move rather swiftly to mitigate the situation. Let me be your voice to promulgate and rectify this issue. Unfortunately and unrelated to this issue or FoMoCo, I have had to square off with big corporate in the past respective to safety issues with excellent success, and I really don’t mind doing it again.
I only ask of a simple reply: Year model, what door locks were affected, and how many times you experienced issues.
This is a safety issue, that needs to be swiftly addressed.
My 22 is now having intermittent issues with the driver's doorlock actuator. Truck is going in Monday for that, a problem with the engine not getting up to temp, and warped rubber molding around the sliding rear window. I'm assuming the actuator will not get replaced unless I get lucky and it acts up
My 2022 F-250, Lariat is in the shop right now for a "Left rear door ajar" warning light popping on and off. This in turn would set off the trucks alarm.
UPDATE: I just got my truck back from the dealer's service department. During the time on the lot while trying to find the issue the "Left rear door ajar" warning popped on a few times and set off the alarm. After attempts to isolate a singular cause/defect; they ended up replacing the entire lock assembly in the left rear door. It has been over a week and no issues as of today. The repair was covered under the Ford ESP warranty and I only had to pay the deductible.
My 2022 Lariat F-350 CCSB SRW 6.7L has had intermittent failure of shotgun door to unlock. PITA is to walk around to driver side and manually open the door from the inside. I will happily join any class action if this is a known defect that Ford is ignoring. Alternately, any pro tips on part # and DIY replacement would also be welcome.
2022 F350 June 6th, 2022 build dat. Driver's door lock actuator was replaced under warranty right around 36k miles. Every lock worked with the Fob except Driver's door. Key worked electric locks did not. Worked one day wouldn't another.
