5.4 still a pain with deleted phasers and cam timing.

I have been back and forth to the shop. He has been very kind with free diagnostics as we cannot determine who is at fault. I replaced the oil pump to high volume, chains tensioners and phasers and later had this shop block and program the truck. Things went OK but there was a nagging tick and power issue. Some times it sounded like a timing PING under heavy load. I only do a couple thousand miles a year with this truck so it took a long time but a few miles for the problem to be serious.

I had a bad fail with a whistle like noise. We did the common things like belts and pulleys but it turned out to be a blown exhaust gasket that the two peices of tin would whistle at 3000 rpms and up. Crazy and I still do not believe it.

Since repairing a lot of broken bolts and gasket issues I now had a problem with no power and extreme PING on left bank. After a while the shop hooked it up and found bank 1 timing 13 degrees off. I figured it slipped a tooth. From the top all looked good. With a scope going down nothing looked off. The shop took it in and pulled the front cover. Timing was dead on. He tried moving the phaser one tooth advanced and then one tooth retarded. The results were drastically off. When he put it back correctly the computer still showed 13 degrees off.

We both are thinking it is a short or bad wire with cam positioner. I tested the Cam Positioner woth a multi meter and it was good at 311 ohms. Tested green wire to the ECM Plug pin# 44 and get 320 ohms. Test brown to ECM Plug Pin # 45 and get 2 ohms. From what I read elsewhere it is supposed to be 200-580 ohms. I am not sure why these specific numbers. What I do know is neither wire is shorted to ground, shorted to power or broken. With Key On Eng Off I get 0.3 volts on the brown wire and.3 volts on green wire. That is wrong too I think.

I am not sure about the altenator test with disconnecting both the hot and field wires.

Any ideas why electricallly I am showing 13 degree advance and a P0340 code on right bank? The mechanical timing is dead on as both of us have checked it. The camphaser fingers are straight. I am certain it is an electrical issue but I cannot put my finger on it.

ifrythings shared this on a reply from a different thread. https://charm.li/Ford/ the wire diagrams were very detailed.

I was chasing the rabbit down the wrong hole. A lot explained but still looking for answers. I will know at least the wires are good now. One connector and one pin replaced.

Still fighting the ghost. I have disconnected the alternator to eliminate interference. disconnected VCT solenoids even though they are disabled in ECM. Ohm checked all wiring and replaced one connector. CPS tests within limits and new one tried with no difference. I hate to ship off the ECM for diagnostics and repair even though it is only $170. They told me too many packages have been lost in the mail lately.

If anyone knows how the few have resolved the issue of Bank 1 Timing off by 13 degrees putting motor in limp mode it would be real nice. so many do not post what the final repair was with this P0340 / P0344 code.
