I know i'm on the super duty site but ---- i'm not getting any answers on the F 150 site. I have a 07 with a 5.4 gas engine and I believe that the timing is off It runs terrible and the only code I get is cam sensors whitch I replaced with no results. The truck was badly wrecked on the left side and I and 2 others think it jumped the timing. My question is how do I check the timing position without a gauge. anybody have any diagrams ? Thanks in advance RANDY 357 FHP
There is no timing to check. There is no distributor. It's all preprogrammed in the PCM.
The exact rotation position of the engine is determined by the cam sensor you mentioned. When the PCM determines it is the correct time to fire a spark plug (based on the other inputs to the PCM) it sends a 12V signal down the wire to the COP of the cylinder in question. That COP steps up the 12 volts and causes a spark.
If the truck still runs like crap you need to check the wiring harness where the truck was damaged. Sounds like a wire to a sensor (like the cam sensor) was damaged.
Thanks but i am sure one of the chains has jumped a tooth or two. The chains are marked by a colored dot and they have to be in the correct rotation - and distance I do not have access to the proper tool and i am sure somebody knows how to sight them by lining them up with a peticular point on the engine RANDY 357 FHP
