My 1990 F-150 was running ok and was going to just check the timing to make sure it was correct. I read the sticker on the air cleaner and it said to time the line to the deep groove in the "timing indicater". It was a little off so I timed it to this spot thinking it would be better. It seemed to be worse.....cold blooded in the morning and seemed to have less power. I Put it back close to were it was and it improved.
What is going on here?
Is there a way to time other then trial and error at this point?
The spout connector is down around the distributer, it has two pink wires going into it and a plug on the end of it. It is probably just hanging there unless it is taped to another wire loom. It is not mounted to anything.
There was a wire coming from the distributer and going to What i think is maybe a resistor (looks like a little round battery)....half way between the two is a plug that i took apart....does this sound right?? THanks for the help by the way
No, you have to pull the plug on the spout connector. If you give me your email addresse I will send you a digital picture of that part of the wiring diagram.
Heres the picture. The SPOUT connector is the grey plug in the lower right corner, plugged into the harness. All it does is enable/disable the timing advance. With it in the timing will advance like it should. With it out the timing will never advance and allow you to set the base timing.
