New to me 2001 Excursion
Greetings everyone!
I recently picked up my 2001 XLT V10 with 163,xxx miles that I had been trying to buy from the neighbor for 3 years. It had been sitting for 3 years, unused. Owner finally agreed to sell if I could get it running. X would crank but not fire. After diagnosing I pinpointed the fuel pump. Dropped the tank in the neighbors driveway and pulled a fuel pump out that had fallen apart due to sitting in 3 year old gas. (That was fun getting it all out and cleaning the tank.) New fuel pump and filter. Primed it and it fired up. Fluids changes have been done. I have put all new tires, front brakes and new headlights assemblies in. I want to recover all the cloth seats with leather, upgrade stereo and speakers and get a grill guard installed. I've attached two pics of me dropping the tank and one of it in my drive way as I was power washing 3 years of pecan tree mess and dirt from it.

Glad you were able to wear you neighbor down and get your Excursion. Now this is where the fun begins, we get to help spend your money. The list of upgrades to your Ex is endless, I like that you have a starting plan which will turn into a never ending project for you. I would add removing those paddle mirrors for the much more popular towing mirrors, either the 08 style or the 17 style which has become popular with members. Welcome to the club

Thanks! Yes, also looking at the tow mirror mod. I understand the never ending spending/mod journey well. I have a 2003 Nissan Z car that is my "race car" and two early Bronco's (1970 Half Cab and 1974 Wagon) that are a constant draw on the bank account, But I love doing my own work as much as I can.

There are supposed to be plastic or nylon straps holding the fuel tank to the skid plate? Guess a PO did a real good job at removing any evidence of that from mine. Although mines a diesel (no fuel pump in the tank) so unless the fuel gauge quits working (or you're doing an engine conversion and upgrading the fuel line size) there really isn't much reason to drop the tank on the diesels.
Wonder is the plastic/ nylon straps were year model (like certain model years got them and others didn't) or fuel type specific?
